Civil activist Chalak Najim detained for 10 days
Kalar-Sulaimani, Kurdistan Region:
A civil activist was detained in Kalar district south of Sulaimani city over the charge of defaming Garmyan administration.
The head of Garmyan Administration Press and Relations, Haval Ibrahim, told NRT on Sunday (July 30) the administration has filed a lawsuit against activist Chalak Najim after he allegedly defamed the administration.
According to the official, Najim has attacked and defamed Garmyan administration in a radio program.
The Kurdish activist was detained in a court order, Ibrahim added. Investigation into the dossier has begun.
The official further said the court has ordered to keep Najim, who is also a government employee in the Garmyan administration, in custody for 10 days.
An investigative court in the district of Kalar, south of Sulaimani, rejected on Monday (July 31) a request to release Kurdish civil activist Chalak Najim on bail.
